Tymoshenko sentenced to 5 years?
Tymoshenko was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment with suspended execution of a sentence for 2 years. Such action of government is explained by the desire to eliminate the possible rival in the election.
Newspaper "Segodnya" writes about this with reference to sources in Yulia Tymoshenko's bloc."Violation of the law was, that means that the case can be brought to the court. But it is clear that the purpose of this case is purely political. The basic aim is not to let Tymoshenko to participate in the parliamentary elections of 2012, neither as a head of the party list, nor on majority election system.
"For this it is not enough to have a case. According to the law the person under investigation can run for parliament election. Therefore, they will bring the case to court and sentencing", - said the representative of BYuT.
According to people's deputy, the best moment for the government to hold court is the end of 2011: it will be enough time to Tymoshenko to come through all the appeals and the sentence came into force. "Most likely, they will sentenced her for five years with suspended execution of a sentence for 2 years, ie, will find her guilty, but will not put to prison. What, indeed, government needs: on the one hand, Tymoshenko will not be able to run for election, on the other - she will not become a martyr"- summed up the deputy.
This view is shared by the political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky: "Certainly in the case of the Tymoshenko the current government there is an emotional component. She has repeatedly insulted the Regions and Yanukovych personally. It is clearly traced the goal to push her out of the political arena once and for all.”
