According to Oleh Voloshin, Director of Information Policy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ukraine has no intention to recognize the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia as it considers Georgia an important strategic partner.
"Ukraine remains committed to the territorial integrity of Georgia. Ukraine does not recognize the independence of the breakaway South Ossetia and Abkhazia, nor the independence for Kosovo. We see Georgia as our important partner and friend on th territory of the former Soviet Union" - said the diplomat.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Konstantin Grishchenko intends to pay an official visit to Georgia on July 14-15 where he will hold talks with the Georgian leadership. As you know, in late August 2008, Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. In response to that, Tbilisi broke the diplomatic relations with Moscow.
