The North Atlantic Alliance does not intend to send its troops to assist Ukraine in its security arrangements during the Euro 2012 European Football Championship.

"NATO will help Ukraine with the recommendations at the preparatory stage, but will not send its servicemen during the actual tournament", - Evert Somer, civil emergency expert from NATO, told reporters in an interview on Thursday.

According to him, earlier Ukraine appealed to the Alliance for expert assistance in preparing for Euro 2012. However, Kyiv hasn't requested yet any assistance in providing security during the tournament itself.

"Only at the request of Ukraine's NATO can provide appropriate assistance in the field of security during the Euro 2012 Championship," - he added. At the same time, according to Somer, this assistance could be provided only within the framework outlined by Ukraine itself.
