Greek businessman paid US 3.5 million ransom for the Ukrainian sailors
Pirates have freed the Algerian-flagged Blida dry-cargo freighter Blida, captured off the Somali coast on 1 January 2011, with five Ukrainians. They are all residents of Odessa and Mykolayiv, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Konstantyn Gryshenko said.
"At the moment the vessel is currently heading for one of safe ports" - said the head of Ministry.
According to him, Ukrainian diplomats closely monitor the return of the sailors to Ukraine the movements of Blida, developing a plan for the return of seamen to their homeland. According to the chief editor "Maritime Bulletin" Mykhailo Voitenko, pirates got redemption from the Greek bulker owner.
"They said that the ransom amount was 3.5 million dollars," - he said. So, now there are no Ukrainian sailors in captivity of pirates.
