Ukraine must defend its position in future negotiations on free trade zone with the EU. This was stated by Director of the Institute of Political Analysis and International Studies, Sergei Tolstov at a press conference on the prospects of relations between Ukraine and the EU in 2011.
According to expert, the Association agreement will be the dominant direction in the relations between Ukraine and the EU this year. "And the political chapters of this Agreement, except for a few items have already been agreed last year, the question of free trade zone left", - informs Tolstov.
The expert explained that "in terms of the approach of the mission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Mission of Ukraine of EU, Ukraine's position is not to go to the concessions that could significantly worsen the trade relations between Ukraine and the EU."
S. Tolstov reported that in the nearest future two stages of talks are scheduled.
Preliminary talks were held in December, they very disappointed Ukrainian government about the possibility of concessions from the EU side, because now the European side is not going to meet those quotas, in which Ukraine is interested, the expert added.
